Datawind launches Attitude Daksha ‎tablet PC at Rs 3,000

UK-based Datawind which had bagged a contract for supplying low-cost tablet 'Aakash' to the government, Thursday launched two such computing devices in the price range of Rs 3,000-4,000, considered to be amongst the cheapest in the market.

Datawind, which had run into problems with the IIT Rajasthan and its sub-contractor Quad Electronics for the much-touted 'Aakash' claimed that it has already done 30 lakh bookings for the new tablets launched in the commercial market.

"We will first deliver pre-bookings, which are over 30 lakh," Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli told reporters here.

He said both the models launched are embedded GPRS modems along with WiFi connectivity. The tablets have seven inch screens which support Android 2.3 operating system, a8-800 Mhz processor and 256 mb RAM.

both first and second tablet comes with 7-inch and the third tablet comes with 8-inch screen display with resistive touch screen with Android Operating System.

It was earlier reported that Aakash 2 Tablet will be released in February. But this release date has been postponed to April 2012, a statement released by Indian government said.

Under pressure to provide better endowed low-cost device, the government has now turned attention to Aakash 2, which is likely to come at the same price tag of the original Aakash.
Government said, they are aware about the low-quality and complaints regarding their low-cost ‘Aakash 2 Tablet PC’, and they are planning to bring upgraded version of tablet in the form of ’Aakash II’. Kapil Sibal, HRD Minister had said that several other manufacturers including ITI would be involved in manufacturing the low-cost tablet. Aakash-2 tablet Expected in Q1 2012

Aakash-2 tablet can be expected to be unveiled by either January or February, 2012. Taiwan PC makers bid to make Aakash-2 tablet.

Aakash 2 tablets are upgraded versions of Aakash tablets and representing many advance features in comparison to Aakash-1. Taiwan companies are good in producing these bulk tablets at a lower price.

New Aakash 2 tablet is changed its 366 MHZ processor to 700 MHZ , it willing to change the 256RAM to 1GB RAM where it will be more useful in the multitasking and browsing videos.

The Aakash tablet seems to be very high in demand as the bookings for the Aakash tablet have reached 14 lakh units in just two weeks since it was put up for sale online. The world's cheapest tablet is being offered at a price of Rs 2500 each.

Even with a resistive touch and slow processor and high resolution display, Aakash tablet has received about 10 lakh + orders a day since online launch last month. In comparison, Apple sold about 10 lakh iPads in 28 days and 30 lakh in 80 days of its launch in April 2010.

The UbiSlate 7, the upgraded version of the Aakash tablet, is sold out for the month of January and February.
